When friends grow old.

Barely days ago, in Summer 2010, I posted this picture of A's best friend:

Bunny:

In the intervening two and a half years, Bunny has been much loved, much played with. Much cuddled and nurtured.

So much so, that this is Bunny now, scrubbed up and looking at his best for the photo:

Bunny is still loved.  Still taken to bed every night. Still clutched through bumps and bruises, fears and frolics, dreams and nightmares.  Still sucked and nuzzled into a disgusting, soggy, stinky rag that requires a weekly 90 degree wash.

But we have to accept that the end cannot be far off.  And I don't know how I am going to cope, much less A.

  1. I would feel sorry for Bunny, but I was just so relieved that this wasn't what I thought it might be from the title, ie a post about aging blogging friends (me, for example).

I don't think the end is nigh. Surely Bunny could carry on in his/her present form for a while? Failing that, could the Easter Bunny bring a new friend (if you do the Easter Bunny thing)? Maybe A could get used to the new friend without having to throw away Old Bunny. Reinforcement of troops, rather than replacement.

    I am wittering.

    1. Depends on how haggard you've got over Christmas, obviously...

That aside, my sister actually bought her a new bunny (different, but lovely) for her birthday which has been welcomed into the soft toy fold, but is clearly no substitute, yet, for the real thing. We will see what happens when this bunny is no longer with us.

  2. Oh dear, poor old bunny does seem to have been in the wars. It's like a sad scene from Watership Down. Could he be re-stuffed?
I remember my favourite teddy when I was little, Timmy, and his four limbs fell off one holiday. They were sewn back on rather badly with thick wool but he survived.

    1. Even myxomatosis (had to google the spelling of that one!) doesn't look this bad does it?!

Bunny's had quite a lot of surgery already though, and I think we may have got past the saving stage...

  3. To be restuffed, his head would have to have "skin" all the way round. Which would be quite the transplant!

    1. Are you saying my surgeon's skills aren't up to it?!

  4. Oh my goodness, I feel a little heartbroken. Is it a gap one? I think we have one the same if it'd help!

      Will email you.

Unless you want to sell him on ebay that is:

  5. I just want to love the comments about bunny, the Internet, and the gap. I love a happy ending.

I know. I'm sorry. I hate these word recognition, are you a robot, guff things too, but having just got rid of a large number of ungrammatical and poorly spelt adverts for all sorts of things I don't want, and especially don't want on my blog, I'm hoping that this will mean that only lovely people, of the actually a person variety, will comment.

So please do. Comments are great...
